Marie Pyle, The Girl With The Golden Voice

Marie_PyleWhen you think of opera, images of dramatized scenes set behind a loud, bellowing voice coming from a woman draped in a gaudy looking dress is what usually comes to mind.

When you look at Marie Pyle, 24-year-old KHTS intern, she doesn’t exactly scream opera singer. Yet when she opens her mouth to sing, the sound sends shivers down your spine.

Pyle who has been singing for over 10 years, discovered her ability to sing when she was only 5 years old and would find herself being pushed by classmates to sing in front of the classes throughout her school career. She has worked with vocal coaches who specialize in the genres of broadway, contemporary, and classic music.

Pyle draws inspiration from Celine Dion because she felt that their struggles to overcome life’s obstacles parallel. Pyle recalls being picked on for her petite size when she was in school and she disclosed always feeling as if she was somehow different from her peers.

Pyle also believes that Dion’s voice is pure talent, unobstructed by images pushed in popular music today.

“Talent doesn’t have to mean who looks the prettiest or who is able to have the best dance moves. When a song moves you without any visual aid, that is true talent.”

Her biggest supporter? Her mom because “she wants to see me use my talent.”

Though Pyle is still unsure of where her voice may lead her, what she is sure of is that she wants to make a difference with her talent.

“It makes me feel good that I can make others happy by singing,” Pyle said.
