Officers from the Franchise Tax Board and deputies assisting them in serving a search warrant in the 17000 block of Crest Heights in Canyon Country got more than they bargained for Wednesday morning.
During a search of the residence, the two deputies discovered that two of the home’s bedrooms were being used to cultivate and grow marijuana.
According to Sgt. Darren Harris, one bedroom contained about 20 mature plants, while another bedroom held about 66 juvenile plants, as well as several Mason jars containing additional marijuana product.
Also seized in the search were items consistent with the sale of marijuana, a rifle, a shotgun and a Glock pistol.
Arrested during the warrant service were Karen Gasparian, 28 and Beau Smith, 28. Both were booked on suspicion of felonies at the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station, where they are being held in lieu of $50,000 bail each. Both are due in court on Friday on the local charges; the state warrant is a completely separate matter.
