Wednesday morning, narcotics detectives arrested a 23-year old Castaic resident for cultivating marijuana in his apartment in the 26700 block of Violin Canyon Road. The detectives had been working more than a month on the case, which started after they received an anonymous tip that someone was growing and selling marijuana in the area.
Detectives reported that this grow was inside a one bedroom apartment at the location. They seized 24 marijuana plants in various stages of development as well as equipment used for the cultivation and growth such as lamps, watering and ventilation systems.
Four of the plants were mature and had buds ready to be dried. A small amount of finished product which was dried and ready to be sold was also located. Each marijuana plant can yield a pound of saleable product and each ounce of product has a potential street value of $300 to $400.
The plants, which were located in the living room and bedroom of the apartment, did have a distinguishable odor that could be detected from outside the apartment.
The suspect, whose name has not been released pending further investigation, was booked at Santa Clarita Valley Station and was released on $30,000 bond.
