Masterson To Lead Chamber Of Commerce

edmastersonThe Board of Directors for the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce has announced that it has selected Ed Masterson as Interim Director of the Chamber. The move comes less than a week after the retirement of President/CEO Larry Mankin.

Masterson currently serves as the District representative for Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, although he was a past Chairman of the Chamber and is a long time business and community leader.

Masterson will assume the interim position for one year, effective May 3, 2010.

“We are very fortunate to have Ed join us during this transition period,” said John Shaffery, 2010 Chair. “Given his historical commitment to the many committees and activities of the Chamber and his experience as Chairman of the Board, Ed will bring great knowledge and enthusiasm to our organization. The Chamber Board and staff looks forward to working with Ed over the next year as we continue to provide leadership and advocacy on behalf of our members.”

“I’m completely honored and flattered that the Chamber would trust me enough to come in and be interim director,” said Masterson. “Larry [Mankin has] been a friend of mine for years, and he helped me out a great deal when I was chairman of the Board back in 2005. So to come in and hopefully continue with the momentum that he’s provided with the leadership that he’s given the organization for the past seven years, it’s something I’m looking forward to doing. I know those are big shoes to fill.”

Given the state of the economy, Masterson knows that he will have his hands full.

“In trying economic times, our best strength is going to be for all of us to stick together, and that is what I think the Chamber does very well…to keep people together, advocate on their behalf, and I think there’s strength in numbers.

The Board will initiate a search for a full time replacement later this year.
