In a homeowner’s association meeting Monday evening, Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth ensured Castaic-area residents that they can choose whether they will become part of the city or not….

Many Castaic residents feel it would be detrimental to the community to join the city, and some residents feel as if the city seeks to annex additional areas.

While Smyth believes the city should be continuous throughout the communities in the Santa Clarita Valley, the city “does not actively pursue annexation.”

The original boundaries for the area did designate it as one city, according to Smyth.
