Now being served at their 11 Santa Clarita locations, McDonald’s has brought back their unique condiment, dubbed “The Sauce,” after a botched revival attempt in October of last year following a reference to it in an episode of Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty.”

In the episode that started Szechuan’s return to the limelight, mad scientist Rick and the other main characters travel back in time in order to get the “sweet-and-sour plum sauce.”

However, during their first attempt in October of 2017 to bring Schezuan back, McDonald’s officials did not expect that demand would be so high for a sauce they had only introduced and then discontinued in 1998 in order to promote the Disney film “Mulan.”

“Last October, we truly meant well when we brought back a super-limited batch of Szechuan Sauce, but it quickly became apparent we did not make enough to meet the expectations of our fans,” McDonald’s officials said in a statement last week. “We did not anticipate the overnight crowds, the cross-state travel and the amazing curiosity, passion and energy fans showed.”

In October, sauce packets ran out in most locations within a day, as the burger chain only produced enough sauce for about 20 packets per location.

But now, in addition to bringing back the sauce once again, McDonalds has also partnered with Studio@Gizmodo and Onion Labs to create a podcast series answering questions about the sauce and the October release failure, according to officials.

“To fully make amends, we felt it was important to not only bring back much more sauce this time, but to also admit our mistakes, answer questions and give fans access to the story behind the story,” McDonalds officials said in a news release.

McDonalds officials said that Szechuan Sauce is scheduled to be available in all U.S. McDonald’s restaurants “while supplies last, which this time around, we hope is awhile.”
