General wants to halt troop withdrawal.
After two days of questioning by Senate and House committee members, General Patraeus recommended that the United States stop withdrawing troops and asked for a 45 day period to evaluate the situation in Iraq, before making any decisions to ramp up further withdrawals.
The troop withdrawals are bringing the overall troop level in Iraq down after a “surge” was implemented to help squelch violence in the country.
Buck McKeon, who sits on the House Armed Services Committee, listened to the Commander’s report, and afterwards told KHTS he supports it.
“I believe that what their doing is incredible work under difficult circumstances,” McKeon said. “We must listen to the recommendations made by our Generals, and should not unduly restrict their ability to make progress in Iraq.”
