Congressman urges caution, consultation regarding military withdrawals from war zone.
Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon issued the following statement
regarding President Obama’s plans to withdraw U.S.
troops from Iraq:
“Today’s announcement by the President to begin
withdrawing U.S.
combat troops from Iraq
is a true testament to the men and women serving in our military abroad,
because with their fortitude Iraq
has been stabilizing over the past year. Under the leadership of General
David Petraeus and General Ray Odierno, our troops are proving success in their
mission.
“While we are all eager to see our troops come home
quickly, I am also encouraged by President Obama’s willingness to be cautious
and flexible with his timeline depending on conditions on the ground.
Such redeployment moves by our military must be strategic in nature and
not rushed in order to maintain the gains we have made in Iraq.
I am confident the President will continue listening to our military commanders
while making his decisions and will work closely with them throughout this
process. Our service men and women deserve our highest gratitude for
their success and service.”
