Congressman lends support to Parks Commissioner.
[view:node_ad=5]Congressman Buck McKeon has put his support behind Laurie Ender for April’s City Council election. McKeon released a statement endorsing Ender, noting that he believes she is ready to take on Cemex.
“After taking a good look at all the candidates, I strongly endorse Laurie Ender for city council. She is the one candidate most qualified to stand with me in our battle to stop CEMEX,” McKeon said.
Ender spoke fondly of the support, saying: “Congressman McKeon is known for his honorable service to the people of Santa Clarita. His endorsement is a real boost to my campaign, and I’m thankful for it,” said Ender.
The issue of Henry Mayo’s proposed expansion also topped McKeon’s list of reasons for his support. “Laurie Ender isn’t afraid to take a stand and fight for an important issue—even if it’s controversial,” he said.
To that, Ender said that her thoughts on the expansion should be visible. “The voters have a right to know where we stand on hospital expansion,” said Ender. “I’m for it. While the other candidates have either flip-flopped on the issue or refuse to tell us where they stand, I, for one, refuse to play politics with healthcare.”
Ender had already won support from Mayor Pro-Tem Frank Ferry and Councilmember Marsha McLean.
There are two City Council seats up in next month’s election, and aside from Ender, McKeon has also endorsed incumbent Mayor Bob Kellar.
