[view:node_ad=5]Yesterday, the United States House of Representatives voted 237 – 170 in favor of a bailout package for the
Big Three U.S. automakers.
Our Congressman Buck McKeon chose to vote against the
package.
“Employers and families across America
are struggling to meet their financial obligations and remain prosperous at a
time when the economy has weakened to recession levels,” McKeon said. “The auto industry in particular has been hit
by low consumer confidence and spending, which has in turn created a spiked
decrease in automobile manufacturing. The consequences to a failed auto industry
are dire, to be certain, based solely on the potential for job losses in a
massive production environment. While it is clear something must be done
to restructure the automobile industry, I don’t believe a taxpayer-funded
bailout is the answer, so I voted against the bailout legislation.”
He continued; “The current Democrat auto bailout plan is
merely a down payment that will not solve the problem but only delay a
crisis. The auto industry needs complete restructuring that avoids adding
another level of government bureaucracy.”
Instead, McKeon supports a Republican
alternative plan to help Ford, Chrysler and General Motors rebound.
The Democrat-backed plan that passed the house will be available online soon at this link.
