The deadline is rapidly approaching for citizens interested in filing vacancies on the Hart School District’s Measure SA Citizens’ Oversight Committee. The committee reviews use of funds from the local school construction bond passed by voters in 2008 and reports to the public on whether the funds are spent as required by law.

All applications must be submitted to the District Office no later than 4 p.m. Friday, October 23.

The Hart District Governing Board established the committee with a minimum of seven and a maximum of 17 members, who serve for two-year terms and a maximum of two consecutive terms. The committee currently has one opening to replace a member who has moved out of the area, and the Board of Education may consider selecting a pool of alternate members who could fill future vacancies as they occur.

The committee meets monthly on the second Tuesday evening, with additional subcommittee meetings as needed. Members represent a cross-section of the community and cannot be employees, vendors, contractors or consultants to the Hart District.

In addition, the law requires that at least one member of the committee represents each of five specific groups: a bona fide taxpayer organization, senior citizens, the business community, a parent organization and a parent with students currently in the district.
