Below is a statement issued by Santa Clarita Frontier Toyota on behalf of the Estes family:

Rita Theresa Estes was unlike any other soul. Anyone who met her was instantly captivated by her charismatic personality, iconic sense of humor and generous character. Sadly, she left this world in her home on August 21, 2018 at the age of 29.

Rita is survived by her husband Matt; father Joseph; mother Priscilla; brother Michael; sister Cara; and dog CC , aka Nana. She is predeceased by her grandfather Joseph Caso, grandfather Ruben Lao and grandmother Rita Lao.

Born on June 13, 1989, Rita was the youngest child of Joe and Priscilla Caso. She was the center of their universe, not only because she was the baby of the family but also because she was constantly radiating love and humor. She grew up with many close friends and extended family nearby, and even though most people’s circles grow smaller as they get older, Rita’s inner circle only grew with each passing year. Rita met Matt Estes in 2013 and they quickly fell in love. They seamlessly fit into each other’s lives like two missing puzzle pieces. Friends and family always anticipated their parties, trips and even Rita’s notorious “#MyMatt” posts. They married on September 16, 2017 surrounded by their loved ones.

Most importantly, Rita truly lived a life of service. Whether it was cooking Sunday dinners with her family, being a great aunt to her nieces and nephews, traveling with her husband for work or simply making you smile on a bad day, you always knew you could count on her. There’s no doubt though, her sense of humor and ability to always simply be herself was unmatched. The way she could make you cry laughing with a quick-witted joke are the moments that we’ll all remember most. Her favorite days were spent with family and friends eating and laughing around her dinner table.

It’s hard to imagine that Rita will no longer be here to take care of us or make us laugh. Her bigger-than-life personality will be sorely missed in all of our lives, and although the world is not as bright as it once was with her in it, all those that were lucky enough to know her have now gained a beautiful angel to look up to. Rest in peace, sweet Rita.

Please join us for a memorial service for Rita on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, located at 23233 Lyons Ave in Santa Clarita. A Celebration of Life is to follow at The Oaks Club at Valencia, located at 26550 Heritage View Lane in Valencia.

  1. It’s so hard to believe she is gone. i just can’t wrap my head around it. I was lucky enough to work with her and loved her sense of humor!!!
This is one of the closest families I’ve ever known and my heart breaks for all of them.
    Prayers to all.

  2. How did she die? Are you now simply posting press releases?

  3. Bigger question is why do you feel the need to know? Would the cause of her death somehow diminish the loss her family and friends are feeling? Seriously, check yourself and find the empathy chip you misplaced, or better yet, show some common decency and remain respectful. And please, don’t try the lame excuse of “just being curious” because it is not your business to begin with.

    • SCgal I had this conversation with my dad once. He informed me of someone young who passed away and I asked him what happened. His exact words were “Why does that matter?”. I told him that when (for me) someone young passes away my natural instinct is to learn from their death. If it was a case where they needed help, maybe it would push me to seek help. If the young person was diabetic, maybe it would make me want to watch my diet. If they were texting and driving, that would make me think twice about texting and driving. In the case where the person is over a certain age (70’s, 80’s and up) I don’t need to know, but that’s just me. I understand where you are coming from, and I respect that. Blessings to you.

  4. Everyone who truly loved Rita should be asking, and IS asking: how did she die? Is no one concerned about what happened to her? Was there anything that any of us, who truly loved her, could have done and missed? She was, and still is in our hearts, a true blessing to us all. All of us should be asking: what happened to cause her death?
