A live musical by our local Performing Arts Center featuring Messo-soprano Suzanna Guzman and Trio America will be held at the Newhall Community Center at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
In a unique setting the singers will be staged in the boxing ring at the community center.
“When they [Performing Arts Center] came out to seek our partnership they wanted to give it a more intimate feel,” said Julie Colderon, Community Center Supervisor. “When they saw the boxing ring they figured it would be an interesting concept to have it in the ring, and that way they combine the arts with the programs we do here.”
The event will honor the “golden era” of Mexican music. The golden era of Mexico’s music is considered to be from the 1930s to 1970s and featured names such as Agustin Lara and Jose Alfredo in the Boleros style of music which are slower balads featuring a flutist, guitarist, and harpist.
The event is part of the community center’s Spring Festival which will start at 4:30 p.m. and feature events and crafts for kids. There will be inflatable jumpers and snow cones.
Prior to the Mexico Golden Era performance there will be a cowboy band which will play outside for the kids.
Admission is free but seating is limited and will be first-come, first-serve.
The Newhall Community Center is located on 22421 Market Street in Newhall.
