Mission Valley Bank To Honor Local Charities

mission_valley_bankIn honor of Mission Valley’s Bank’s 10th anniversary, bank officials are expressing their thanks for the community’s support by making donations to local charities.

 

 

“Our anniversary is our anniversary, and we’re happy to make the milestone, but there needed to be something more,” said Carrie Burrell, who handles marketing for Mission Valley Bank. “Our success is directly because of the community supporting us, so we wanted to give back.”

Representatives of the nonprofit organizations will each receive $1,000 during a community/business mixer Wednesday night at the Mission Valley Bank in Valencia. (25060 W. Avenue Stanford, at Avenue Scott, in the Valencia Industrial Center). The mixer is open to the public.

The nonprofits being honored include:

The Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley (The Club)

Since 1968, the vision of The Club has been to provide every child with the essential tools needed for a successful and bright future. Every day, The Club strives to improve each child’s life by instilling self-esteem, courage, and positive values through all of our educational programs. Nearly 2,400 young people between the ages of 7 and 17 are engaged in proven programs that reinforce positive values and provide avenues for personal growth and development. The Club provides tutoring, homework assistance, computer training, sports, social recreation, education, mentoring, arts & crafts and so much more.

Carousel Ranch

Founded in 1997 by Denise Tomey (Executive Director) and Becky Graham (Program Director) Carousel Ranch has touched the lives of thousands through Therapeutic Riding.  Therapeutic riding is horseback riding for the disabled. It combines instruction in traditional horsemanship skills with concepts of physical therapy to improve the strength, balance, and self-esteem for physically and mentally disabled children and adults.  Serving more than 100 clients a week, the diversity of programs offered at Carousel Ranch allows Becky, Denise and their devoted team to lead disabled riders through many developmental stages, always increasing the therapeutic benefits while allowing each child’s strengths to carry them to new levels of skill and confidence.

College of the Canyons Foundation

College of the Canyons has served the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding communities for 40 years and has become a vital, enduring, cultural, educational, and economic force in the region. The college is proud to have modern facilities, an outstanding and enthusiastic staff, innovative programs, and advanced technological solutions.  The College of the Canyons (COC) Foundation is a non-profit auxiliary organization formed to generate philanthropic support for College of the Canyons.

The Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation

The mission of the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation is to raise funds for the capital needs of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital so that the hospital can continue to meet the changing needs of the community while also fostering volunteerism as well as positive community awareness of the hospital.

The Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers

The SDFHC was founded in the community of Val Verde more than 20 years ago by the Rev. Samuel Dixon.  Today, they serve the entire Santa Clarita Valley via locations in Canyon Country, Val Verde as well as a full service health center that is open 2 days each week at Newhall Elementary School.   The SDFHC is dedicated to making comprehensive, quality healthcare available to all those in need – particularly the uninsured and underinsured.

Single Mother’s Outreach

Single Mothers Outreach was founded in 1995 and has since provided life altering assistance to more than 2,000 single parent families throughout the Santa Clarita Valley area.  Based upon the mission to empower single parents and their children by providing hope, support and resources so that families can become self-sustaining, Single Mother’s Outreach provides real resources (including education and support) to promote a better quality of life and currently has more than 450 single parent families enrolled.

Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation

The Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation (SCVEDC) works to provide an integrated approach to attracting, retaining and expanding a diversity of business and industry in the Santa Clarita Valley with overarching goals to support the creation of high-paying jobs for our trained workforce and stimulate economic activity.

Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry

For the last quarter-century, the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry has been helping provide food to less fortunate families in our valley. While their operation started small in a storage bin at St. Stephens Church in Valencia and expanded to its headquarters on Railroad Avenue in downtown Newhall, the number of people served has grown, especially in these difficult economic times.  In 2010, the Pantry distributed more than 780,000 pounds of supplemental food to more than 6,000 local people in need.

SCV Pregnancy Center

The SCV Pregnancy Center exists to empower men and women regarding pregnancy related decisions through information, education and practical assistance and also provides pregnancy tests, peer counseling, referrals and practical help.

SCV Senior Center

The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center is a multipurpose center dedicated to independence, dignity, and quality of life for our senior citizens and the community at large. The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center enhances independence, dignity and quality of life through community resource management and coordination, advocacy, and a full spectrum of direct quality services.
