One day late, two weeks early, and absolutely perfect.
Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s first baby of 2012 is a healthy little girl, born Jan. 2 at 12:24 p.m.
“It’s kind of weird” having the Santa Clarita Valley’s New Year’s baby, Jennifer Gorse said. “(We were) definitely not expecting that.”
Kylie Ann Gorse weighed in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces and 20 inches.
Born two weeks ahead of schedule, she’s the second child of Lancaster residents Jennifer and Richard Gorse. Son Richard Jr. will turn 4 at the end of the month.

The Antelope Valley couple chose Henry Mayo so the baby could be delivered by Dr. Don Nishiguchi.
“She refused to give birth anywhere else,” said dad, who – luckily for Kylie – manages the Toys R Us store in Lancaster. Jennifer is a stay-at-home mom.
She described the natural birth as “quick and easy.”
“(There were) no complications,” she said. “Everything went smooth.”
Rather than selecting a family name for their newest addition, the young couple went high-tech.
“I have an app (for baby names) on my iPhone,” Jennifer said. “(We) scrolled through and picked a couple, and that was the one that we liked the most.”
