Morning Car Chase Puts Alleged Car Thief Behind Bars

khts_crimeDeputies end chase by the mall.

Around 9:30 Wednesday morning, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy from the Santa Clarita station was on patrol in Saugus when he spotted a vehicle which had been stolen on September 2nd.

The deputy radioed for backup while inconspicuously following the car. Before the full contingent of deputies could arrive, 21 year-old driver Horrace Covarruvias apparently caught on to the ploy and drove his car off.

The deputy followed, kicking in his sirens and chasing the car along Bouquet Canyon Rd., Haskell Canyon Rd., and Seco Canyon. After a five minute chase, Covarruvias abandoned his vehicle near the Westfield Valencia Town Center and took off on foot. He was quickly chased down and arrested.

He is now being held on suspicion of receiving stolen property and evasion.
