Motorcyclist Dies In Collision With SUV

A motorcyclist died Thursday morning in a collision with a sports utility vehicle at 7:15 a.m., said Officer Francisco Villalobos of the California Highway Patrol.

A 20-year-old Newhall man was traveling westbound on Highway 126, just east of Chiquito Canyon Road, on a 2005 Kawasaki EX500D at a high rate of speed, according to the CHP report. James Loveless, a 61-year-old Val Verde man,was heading southbound on Chiquito Canyon Road, stopped at a stop sign, and was preparing to turn left onto 126 heading eastbound.

The driver of the Kawasaki lost control of his motorcycle and collided into the left side of Loveless’ 1994 GMC Suburban, according to the report.

The identification of the motorcycle rider was not released pending next-of-kin notification.

“We still have about four or five units on scene, we had one fatality at the scene,” Villalobos said. “Coroner’s (Department) officers are investigating the scene, as we are investigating the incident.”

Traffic is likely to be impeded for at least the next hour while officers make their determination on the cause of the crash.

“Westbound lanes on the 126 are closed, and traffic is being allowed through using the right shoulder,” Villalobos said.
