Motorcyclist Dies In Sand Canyon Crash

A motorcycle rider died when he collided with a compact car on Sand Canyon Road shortly before 4 p.m. Friday.

The rider, whose age was estimated to be between 25 to 30, was driving a Yamaha street bike southbound on Sand Canyon Road when he broadsided a Toyota Scion driven by a 47-year old woman who was pulling out of the entrance of the Santa Clarita Mobile Home Park in the 28000 block.

Both the rider and the Scion driver suffered major injuries in the crash and were transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. The rider, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives, was declared dead at the hospital.

There are unconfirmed reports that the rider was involved in law enforcement, and fire officials told KHTS that the bike involved was a police motorcycle, but witnesses reported the bike was a civilian model.

UPDATE: The rider was identified by Coroner’s officials as Dwaine Michael Laub, 32, of Canyon Country.
