A pair of motorists reported the sightings to the Sheriff’s Station, one at 9:07 p.m., and another at 9:31 p.m., both near the 26000 block of Josel Drive, northeast of Sand Canyon Road and Placerita Canyon Road, according to Lt. Bryan Aguilera of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies notified California Department of Fish and Wildlife officials, Aguilera said, who would respond in the event of a deputy being able to locate the bear and identify a possible safety threat.

A resident eventually reported the bear leaving from where he was reportedly sighted and headed toward a nearby woodland area, Aguilera said.

  1. There was a comment on Nextdoor Canyon Country today that a bear was removed from 14S fwy today by CalTrans. Is it the same bear? Can you verify this info for us? Was he run over by a car or shot by Sheriff”s.
This is very sad news, I wish the bear was removed safely before getting killed 🙁
