At about 5:00 pm Saturday night, a Canyon Country resident got quite a scare when she heard some noise in her back yard.

A woman named Linda told KHTS that she heard ravens making a ruckus in the back yard, followed shortly after by her chicken, named Maggie.

Linda then went to her back yard and looked around. “At first I couldn’t see it, it was like a statue, it stayed completely still,” she said. But when she did decipher what was in her yard, she saw that it was a mountain lion.

“She was about 70 to 100 pounds, and she was NOT scared,” Linda said.

She then ran into the house and grabbed a noisemaker; the same used for New Years celebrations, and started blowing it as loud as she could. But the mountain lion in her back yard was not spooked, and just meandered back up her hill and out of sight.

“I think she just got sick of the noise, because it didn’t scare her,” Linda remembers.

[view:node_ad=5]This is the latest in a few mountain lion sightings in the Canyon Country area. Linda’s neighborhood is located near Sand Canyon Rd and Sierra Highway, the very same neighborhood where a large dog was reportedly killed, and another mauled by a mountain lion just a few weeks ago.

And another recent story involves a mountain lion who stalked a man walking his two dogs in the Sand Canyon area. However, Linda believes that the mountain lion she saw was much smaller than the one reportedly involved in that incident.

Either way, all of the stories that have come to light in the Santa Clarita Valley have one thing in common; that the mountain lions seem to be quite brave and have entered residential properties. The fact that multiple sightings have been reported in recent times points to a clear picture that this potential threat is no longer as rare as it once was.

Residents are advised to keep an eye out for mountain lions, and to report any sightings. Mountain lions are most active during dawn and dusk. No humans have been attacked in Santa Clarita.
