In what might have been a painful resolution of ongoing health problems, a Saugus man killed his wife as she lay in bed Thursday morning, then went to an adjoining bathroom and killed himself.
UPDATE: The couple were identified Monday by Coroner’s officials as Racquel Christina Ruiz, 68, and John Joseph Ruiz, 75.
Lt. Dave Coleman of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau said that the Santa Clarita Valley station received a rescue call shortly after 8 a.m. from one of the two health caregivers who heard the gunshots.
Yellow crime scene tape was wrapped around white rose bushes in the front yard of the Bobwhite Circle condominium that faces Haskell Canyon Road.
The victims were a 68-year old Hispanic woman and a 73-year old Hispanic man. Coleman confirmed that the two were husband and wife and that a handgun was used for the apparent murder-suicide. Their identities are being withheld until all relatives can be notified.
“The female was found in bed with a single gunshot wound,” he said. “The suspect was found in an adjacent bathroom with a gunshot wound.”
Coleman said that the two healthcare workers told detectives that no argument preceded the incident. He also said that a note was found near the bodies.
“There were ongoing health issues that may have contributed to the situation,” he said.
While detectives and crime scene personnel went in and out of the condo, a truck from the SCV Senior Center’s Home Delivered Meals slowed down outside the door. A deputy approached the truck and advised that her clients would not need service today.
