National Forests To Be Fee-Free On Veterans Day

Forest_ServiceIn honor of America’s past and present military members, national forests across the country, including the Angeles and Los Padres locally, will offer visitors a “fee free” day on Thursday, November 11. The normally required National Forest Adventure Pass will be waived.

“By waiving fees, the Forest Service hopes everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy the wonder and rejuvenation of recreation in national forests, while also honoring our country’s veterans,” said Jody Noiron, supervisor of Angeles National Forest.

“Fee Free” days are observed each year on National Trails Day (June 5), Back to Schoole Season (August 14-15), National Public Lands Day (September 25) and Veterans Day.

Visitors who inadvertently use a Daily Adventure Pass on Thursday can have it replaced free of charge. Though the Adventure Pass fee will be waived, campground, reservation, group site and concession fees may still be in effect.

Those interested can contact their local Ranger Station for more information:

The fee-waiver days support the goals of President Obama’s “America Great Outdoors” conference and First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative by actively supporting and promoting programs, projects and initiatives that encourage use of the outdoors by the public. The waivers allow people to explore our nation’s forests, which offer a wide range of recreation and educational benefits such as improved physical and mental health, emotional well-being, concern for nature and a conservation ethic.
