Continuing in the city’s wildly successful campaign to invigorate older, more deteriorated neighborhoods in Santa Clarita, the next installment of Extreme Neighborhood Makeover will take place in a Canyon Country area this Saturday.

The specific neighborhood location is not disclosed to the public because the event is invitation only, reserved for homeowners in the targeted area.

Food from Jersey Mike’s sandwich shop will be provided to the neighborhood residents, and community preservation officers will be on hand to identify code violations. Licensed contractors will also attend the event to talk about options for repairs and to give some perspective to the homeowners.

The idea behind Extreme Neighborhood Makeover is for the city to work with the residents, identifying and helping to improve current situations, while also installing pride of ownership.

“The Extreme Neighborhood Makeover Program assists residents with code compliance issues,” said Mayor Frank Ferry. “The Block Party kicks off the event, inviting residents to meet City officials and staff and learn how the City can best assist them in bringing their properties up to code.”

Residents will be issued 30-day notices to correct any problems discovered.

Safety is key component of the program as well. Sheriff’s deputies will be offering information on neighborhood watch programs and other crime prevention tips.

For fun, the KHTS antique fire truck will be available for families to enjoy, and local firefighters will be on scene with their equipment as well.

City staff will be using the event to assess what street, sidewalk and landscaping improvements need to be made, and to combat any graffiti problems the neighborhood may be having.
