Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Expansion Care Approved By State

HM_NICU_03The California Department of Public Health inspected and approved three new services in one day at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital: the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Cardiovascular Services expansion which includes interventional cardiac catheterization procedures and cardiothoracic surgery.

“This is a truly exciting day for all of the residents of Santa Clarita,” said Assembly member Cameron Smyth of the 38th Assembly District. “My three children were born at Henry Mayo and I have witnessed firsthand the care and compassion they have had for my family, most recently for my father during his last days. Now to have this range and level of excellence to care for our families from the moment they are born through all the days of their lives, well, that is a level of comfort that is unsurpassed for our community.”

The new state-of the art, 11-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) will formally open on Monday with specialized services for newborns. In addition to being equipped with the latest technology, the NICU is supported by a highly specialized team of experts including doctors, nurses, respiratory care specialists, nutritionists, pharmacists, physical and occupational therapists who will all provide support for the newborn and mother. A board- certified neonatologist will oversee care, and nurses with advanced training in infant care will provide continual monitoring.

While Henry Mayo has long been the leading provider of non-invasive medical cardiology care in our community, we are pleased to announce the expansion of our cardiovascular services.

HM_NICU_01_copy“Over the last 10 months, physicians and medical staff leadership worked very closely with us to expand and implement new cardiac interventional services,” said Roger E. Seaver, President and CEO of Henry Mayo. “Some of the most experienced and well-respected cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons in the region have chosen to practice at Henry Mayo and bring their talents to the citizens of the Santa Clarita Valley. “

With heart disease being the number one killer in the nation, Henry Mayo’s expanded cardiovascular services will address this staggering statistic by offering a broad range of heart and cardiovascular services– including open heart surgery, valve replacement and coronary interventions – all aimed at providing the best possible outcomes for patients and their families.
