The program will feature two eight week sessions for both youth and adults including Introduction to boxing, which gives participants a chance to learn skills and techniques, and boxing fitness which is a fun, healthy and engaging fitness opportunity.
“The City is dedicated to providing quality structured programs, and this summer residents can develop skills and improve overall fitness with the new boxing program,” said Mayor Bob Kellar.
Boxing introduction for youth is offered on Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and boxing fitness on Monday and Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Youth must be at least 10-years-old to register for programming.
For adults, the boxing Introduction sessions are offered on Tuesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and boxing fitness will take place Tuesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
In addition to these sessions, both youth and adults have the opportunity to participate in open gym time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Open gym is a supervised, non-instruction drop in time giving all skill levels the opportunity to use the facility to work on technique, strength and conditioning.
“Boxing provides numerous benefits and challenges which coincide with Santa Clarita’s continued support and encouragement of healthy lifestyles through a variety of experiences that strengthen the well-being of community members,” Kellar said.
As one of the world’s oldest and most celebrated sports, boxing has become a global phenomenon with tremendous crossover appeal.
Registration is now available online with classes beginning on Monday, July 1.
The Santa Clarita Newhall Community Center is located at 22421 Market Street.
