New Fire Battalion To Center In Canyon Country


In response to the growth in the Santa Clarita Valley, the Los Angeles County Fire Department is splitting off its newest battalion – Number 22 – to better serve the area.

Come August 1, Station 107 on Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country will get a lot busier, as it has been selected as the temporary headquarters of Division III, Battalion 22 headquarters until a new facility (Station 150) is built near Via Princessa and the 14 freeway.


Currently, there are 14 stations online in the valley, all under the command of three Division III, Battalion 6 Chiefs. The new battalion will allow for three more chiefs to help oversee the workload; they are Chief Davd Thies, Chief John Owens and Chief Ted Lindaman. .

Battalion 22 will open with seven station in its purview: Stations 104 (temporarily located on Golden Valley Road), 107 (Soledad Canyon Road near Solemint), 108 (Rock Canyon Drive in Saugus), 111 (Seco Canyon Road near Bouquet), 123 (Sand Canyon Road near Placerita), 132 (Sand Canyon Road in Stetson Ranch) and Station 81 will be added from Battalion 17 in Agua Dulce. Battalion 22 will also oversee the new Station 128 to be built at the top of Whites Canyon Road.

Battalion 6 headquarters will remain at Station 126 on Citrus Drive in Valencia and the battalion will be responsible for Stations 73 (Railroad Avenue near 15th Street), 75 (Chatsworth), 76 (Henry Mayo Drive near Valencia Blvd.), 77 (Gorman), 124 (Stevenson Ranch), 149 (Ridge Route in Castaic) and 156 (Copper Hill Drive). The new station in Castaic, planned for Hasley Canyon Road will be part of Battalion 6.

The new Battalion will also establish Fire Explorer Post 22, under the guidance of Fire Fighter Paramedic Rich O’Keefe.
