Several new fire stations are planned in Santa Clarita, and with recent County approval for soil and geotechnical testing, the new stations have inched closer to becoming a reality. Read more on this testing in yesterday’s article.
Before delving into the new stations, here’s a little background information about how the LA County Fire Department works in Santa Clarita.
- There are currently 15 stations in the greater Santa Clarita Valley. They are split into two “battalions”, which in turn make up one “division.”
- All Fire Department services are provided by the County and operate above City/County unincorporated boundaries.
- During a major emergency, fire personnel from across the LA County Fire Department can assist, as well as LA City firefighters, state and federal firefighters and others.
- While there are some predictions for the start of construction for the new stations, no time listed in this article is set in stone.
Of the six new stations, four are being focused on in the immediate future.
Fire station 104 – This station is currently active, serving from a temporary station on Golden Valley Road. The permanent station will be built where Golden Valley Road meets Newhall Ranch Road, near the terminus of the newly constructed bridge over the Santa Clara River. Construction may begin as early as August.
Fire Station 132 – This station is also active inside a temporary facility. Located at 29310 Sand Canyon Rd., the new station will have a look that’s meant to blend in to the suburban neighborhood in which it is a part. The station will also be a first responder to wild fires up Sierra Highway or Soledad Canyon Road. Construction on this station could start as early as August.
Fire Station 150 – This station will be located at 19190 Golden Valley Rd. near the Fair Oaks Ranch area. Aside from serving the community nearby, the station will also host the Division 3 headquarters, which consists of two battalions in Santa Clarita and another in the foothill communities. Construction on this station could start as early as October.
Fire Station 156 – Located at 24505 Copperhill Rd., this new station will directly serve the area in northern Saugus and Valencia. Construction could also begin on this station in October.
Another two stations are planned for Santa Clarita, although timelines have not been officially released. They include:
Fire Station 128 – This station will be built at 28450 Whites Canyon Rd. Sitting near the top of the roadway that links Whites Canyon Road to Plum Canyon Road, this station will help meet the need of existing homeowners as well as a host of future residents expected though planned development in the area.
Fire Station 143 – During the next development boon, Castaic is expected to grow dramatically. Serving at 28580 Hasley Canyon Rd., this planned Fire Station will help bring another crew to the Castaic and Val Verde areas.
