New Life Awaits Holiday Trees In Recycling Effort

What to do with that lovely evergreen that made the house smell so festive and sparkled through the holidays…all good things must come to an end and for the family’s Christmas tree, the city of Santa Clarita is offering free curbside Christmas tree recycling through January 13 for all single family and multi-family residents located in the city limits.

If you don’t live within the city limits, don’t despair – someone will pick up your tree and dispose of it in an environmentally-sensitive way. Customers of Waste Management, Advantage Disposal and Burrtec will also enjoy curbside pickup on their regular collection day.

All materials such as tinsel, ornaments, lights and tree stands must be removed before disposing of the trees. Trees taller than 6 feet should be cut for ease in pickup. Recycled trees are used as soil amendment, compost or bagged for mulch.

Only Burrtec will accept flocked trees at the curb; otherwise, flocked trees can be dropped off at the Waste Management yard at 25772 Springbrook Road between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Before depositing trees, all tree stands, lights, ornaments and other tree decorations must be removed.

Boy Scout Troop 582 is also providing a tree pick-up service; they will deliver the trees to the Waste Management yard. To arrange pickup, call 661-251-5126. Donations are not required, but will be accepted.

Customers who miss the deadline should simply cut up their trees and put the wood into their greenwaste containers for collection.

For more information call the City’s Environmental Services Division at (661) 286-4098.
