Governor Schwarzenegger debuts website that offers a host of information on every local school.

[view:node_ad=5]Parents now have an alternative to searching through long databases to find information on schools in their area.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently unveiled a new website that easily displays state collected data on every single school in Santa Clarita and California as a whole.

The site is called “California School Finder,” and it provides users with the ability to search and compare schools within an adjustable radius of their zip codes.

Once a school is selected, a detailed aerial map is displayed, along with details that include the school’s API scores for the last two years, the district dollars spent per student, and even a demographical breakdown of the students.

Other details that the state can provide about the school include:

  • API Year over year growth
  • Whether the most recent year’s API growth targets have been met
  • Number of Students Tested (API)
  • Number of Students Exempt (API)
  • Total Number of Students
  • Total Number of Teachers
  • Avg. Students per Teacher
  • Avg. Students per Counselor
  • After School Programs
  • Graduation Rate
  • 1 Year Dropout Rate
  • Passing CAHSEE Math
  • Passing CAHSEE ELA
  • Whether or not the school has met the AYP criteria

“School Finder is a fantastic resource that brings together information about California’s schools and makes it easily accessible for parents,” said Governor Schwarzenegger.  “This vital information, compiled in one easy-to-navigate site, will increase school accountability and transparency, and put power back into the hands of California parents.  The facts of achievement for every school in California are now easily accessible – not buried in bureaucracy.”

The site was designed through a partnership with our state, Microsoft, and Google. It utilizes Geospatial Information System (GIS) technology, which involves placing data over a detailed map of a geographic area.

“California School Finder is an example of how technology can improve transparency and accountability in our education system,” said Teri Takai, State Chief Information Officer.  “And I thank our partners for helping make this great resource available to parents across California.”

Some data fields are not available for every school, however most major schools have a large amount of information listed.

Aside from standard elementary, jr. high and high schools, the website also displays information on alternative and adult education schools and charter schools.
