Newborn Baby Surrendered At Henry Mayo

13th safe surrender for LA County this year

[view:node_ad=5]A newborn baby was surrendered at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital yesterday, as part of the Safe Surrender Program.

In an effort to try and stem the occurrence of abandoned babies in Los Angeles County, the Safe Surrender Program promotes the surrender of newborn babies to designated sites throughout the County.

LA County Supervisor Michael Antonovich issued a statement following the safe surrender where he praised the program’s success.

“This is another example of a young life saved and given a second chance because someone chose to surrender rather than abandon her,” said Supervisor Antonovich.

The baby was surrendered on September 4th, and according to the County, was a female of Caucasian ethnicity. She has since been placed into protective custody.

"Being part of the safely surrendered program is a blessing for everybody involved," said Henry Mayo Spokesperson Andie Bogdan. "The baby is healthy and getting loving care from our maternity nursing staff."

Since the program was implemented, sixty babies have been safely surrendered.
