County brochure leads mother to safe surrender of baby.
A newborn child was surrendered at a Valencia
hospital – the seventh Safe Surrender in Los Angeles
County in 2008.
The male infant was safely surrendered on September 9 and will be placed
in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services. The mother
of the infant is reported to have learned about the Safe Surrender program
through a brochure.
“This is another example of how this vital County program
saved a life that may have been abandoned,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor
Michael D. Antonovich.
To reduce the incidence of abandoned babies in Los
Angeles County ,
the Safe Surrender Program encourages the surrender of newborn babies to
designated sites throughout the County. The program was initiated by
Supervisor Knabe and approved unanimously by the Board of Supervisors in 2001.
