The City of Santa Clarita planning commissioners approved the Riverpark development (with a 4-1 vote), which would add 1,100 homes on the northern edge of the Santa Clara river….
Newhall Land, the project’s developer, could have built more than 3,000 homes on the property in accordance with the zoning. The project will also include two commercial areas along with a park and open space.
Marlee Lauffer, spokeswoman for Newhall Land, says that the project is sensitive to keeping the river in its natural state, and it allows for a $24 million allocation to the Cross Valley Connector.
The Santa Clarita City Council will make the final decision as to whether the project should continue as planned.
