Newhall Park Swimming Pool to Re-Open in June

Construction is Still in Progress

With the hot summer days approaching, be prepared to cool off at the Newhall Park pool, open for swimming on June 17. The pool’s building, originally constructed in 1992, was not able to handle a damp environment. Ventilation, drainage and mold became issues and the City began the renovation process in March 2006. The building has been vacant since construction went underway.

“The building has undergone major renovations,” said Doug Botton, Recreation Administrator for Aquatics. “There will be new bathrooms and windows — consider it an extreme makeover. In addition, the rehabilitation project includes a new drainage system and installation of new drywall and tile. In the past, parents and guests had to walk through steamy, wet shower rooms just to view the children during swimming programs — the new building will be reconfigured to include a central hallway to make it easier for parents to access the pool deck. The building will not be complete for the opening of summer programs, however temporary facilities will be set up including a lifeguard station trailer, outdoor showers and bathrooms. June 17 marks the day the pool will be open to the public. A grand re-opening event in which the building will be officially will come later this summer complete. Botton anticipates the event between to happen between the fourth week of July and first week of August.

The Newhall Pool holds a capacity of 210. Residents pay $1 for ages 3 – 17, $2 for ages 18 and up and babies swim for free. For more information please contact Doug Botton at (661) 250-3771 or visit the web at www.santa-clarita.com/parks.
