Solo vehicle spin out claims life of 23-year-old.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY 9:52 a.m.
The 23-year-old Newhall woman who died Tuesday morning on the southbound Antelope Valley freeway just north of Sand Canyon Road was identified by authorities as Rebecca Higdon.
According to CHP Officer John Lutz, Higdon was driving a 1990 dark blue Honda Accord southbound on the 14 freeway in the #2 lane at approximately 8:50 a.m. For an unknown reason, her car veered to the right, hitting the sound wall and careening to the left, crossing all lanes of traffic before hitting the center divider head-on.
Fire department personnel attempted to revive Higdon, but she was declared dead at the scene at 9:14 a.m.
Two lanes of the freeway were closed for approximately two hours so officers could investigate the accident. Lutz said that the incident was not rain-related and that Higdon was not properly restrained.
