“Newhallywood” Class Will Teach SCV Film And TV History

Film_ReelHundreds of film makers and television producers have passed through our valley to take advantage of our beautiful scenery to use in their productions. Santa Clarita has been used as Hollywood’s back lot since the earliest days of cinema.

It is such a common production site that early producers have been known to call the area around Newhall, “Newhallywood.” Almost any genre of television or movie productions has been filmed in our valley and the tradition lives on with new and current productions filming locally.

E.J. Stephens of the Santa Clarita Historical Society is now teaching a class called “Newhallywood: The History of Film/TV in SCV” to educate our valley’s citizens on all the interesting and historical productions that have taken place here in our valley.

Don’t miss a thing. Get breaking news alerts delivered to your inbox.

The class will feature presentations of several of the films and television shows filmed in and around the area and trips to the locations themselves.

The class is held from 1- 4 p.m. every Saturday beginning July 10 through July 31. It is to be held at various locales throughout SCV. Registration fee is $50.

To register for this class and for more information, call Pat Saletore at (661) 254-1275.
