Athletes to test their abilities.
Performance sports merchandise leader Nike is bringing their My Better Challenge to Santa Clarita. With the help of the brand new Velocity Sports Performance training center, athletes age 13-18 will be able to compete with other athletes across the country to find the best male and female athlete. Nike will utilize the unique SPARQ Athletic Assessment program to choose the final ten male and female athletes nationally, and Velocity Sports Performance is the only place in Santa Clarita to receive a SPARQ score and qualify for the My Better Challenge.
Velocity owner Brad Beale is excited to see the results our Santa Clarita athletes can achieve.
“We’re excited for a few reason; one, it’s our grand opening and a great opportunity to invite people in and get to know our coaches and training philosophies,” Beale said, ”and two, there are some great athletes in Santa Clarita, and I hope everyone can come in and get their free SPARQ score and we can send someone to Oregon.”
Velocity is already working with some of the area’s top athletes and programs, including Canyon do-it-all superstar Stephen Wirthlin and the dominant boy’s tennis program from Valencia High.
The SPARQ test was developed by NIKE to be the SAT test for athletes worldwide. The test can be tailored to specific sports, but can also test general athleticism. The general test will be used for the My Better Challenge test. The five events include a 30 meter dash, power ball toss, vertical jump, agility challenge, and a hurdle test.
The My Better Challenge is taking place on Saturday, May 3rd at Velocity Sports Performance, located at 25461 Rye Canyon Road in Santa Clarita. Visit www.velocitysp.com/scv for more information about training programs, or call 661-294-4000.
