On January 18th, 2010 KHTS welcomed The Elks Lodge to the KHTS community resource station. The Elk’s Lodge is hosting their annual roast which benefits the Samual Dixon Family Health Center.  This years roastie is Jay thomas, President of Six Flags Magic Mountain. We Featured Jay Thomas – president of Six Flags, Tim Burkhart – General Manager of Six Flags, Bob Kellar – MC of the roast, Darrell Paulk, and from Samual Dixon, Ed Bolden and Cheryl Leyman.

The Non-Profit Spotlight Show is hosted by Janice Murray which is heard on Mondays from 10am-12pm on AM1220, KHTS.

Rev. Samuel Dixon founded the first Samuel Dixon Family Health Center over 20 years ago in the community of Val Verde, CA. Today we serve all residents of the Santa Clarita Valley.

Their mission is to enhance wellness by providing quality outpatient health care services and programs, health education, community resources and referrals.

They want to ensure that all our friends and neighbors have access to affordable quality primary care. We make a special effort to serve the uninsured and under-insured residents of Santa Clarita Valley.

With two primary health centers – the Val Verde Health Center and the Canyon Country Health Center, they provide immunizations and vaccines, physicals, screening and diagnostic tests, well baby care, preventative programs, family planning, women’s health services, treatment of illness and injury.

The newest part-time health center, located at the Newhall Elementary School, provides full medical services, the same as the other health centers. Our Newhall health center is open two days a week.

In 2006, They provided over 8,000 patient contacts, with all charges based on the individual’s ability to pay. Many times this care prevented illness and injury from getting worse; eliminated the need for unnecessary trips to the emergency room and enabled family members to gain employment, or get back on the job quickly.

They are the only health center founded and based in the Santa Clarita Valley. The board of directors, all of whom are Santa Clarita Valley residents, govern us, led by president Edward Bolden.
