On April 11, 2008, KHTS was pleased to welcome back Ellie Lacks and Jay Weiner from the Gentle Barn Foundation to the KHTS Community Resource Station. We featured this organization on the KHTS Non-Profit Spotlight – hosted by Janice Murray . The KHTS Non-Profit Spotlight airs Mondays and Fridays at 10am on AM-1220 KHTS and is sponsored by Providence Holy Cross Health Center .
Home to sixty rescued animals, the Gentle Barn opens its doors to abused and At-Risk kids – giving them an opportunity to spend time with the animals – often connecting with them, which can begin the healing process for some children and teens. Through the interaction with the animals, the kids learn forgiveness, courage, strength, leadership skills and much more.
All of the animals at Gentle Barn have been rescued. They are the ambassadors – each with its own unique story and history.
In January, Gentle Barn volunteers became part of an animal rescue effort in Lancaster. Over 100 dogs were rescued from deplorable conditions. All of these animals have been spayed of neutered and some dogs are ready to be adopted.
The Gentle Barn Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. Donations help sustain the Gentle Barn so that they can continue to provide a loving home for the animals and keep their doors open for the kids. There are also a number of volunteer opportunities available.
