October 17, 2011, The KHTS Community Resource Station welcomed the Santa Clarita Food Pantry. We featured Belinda Crawford and Mary Margaret Sunker on the KHTS Non-Profit Spotlight hosted by Janice Murray.

The Santa Clarita Food Pantry provides food to those in need who live in the Santa Clarita Valley on a short-term, supplemental basis. They can provide up to 3 meals per family member per week. Clients receive food twice a month. The quantity of food distributed depends on the size of the family. For example, a family of five receives 3 full grocery bags of donated food and 1 bag of food per month as well as bread, milk and fresh produce and hygiene items.

The mission of the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry is to alleviate hunger throughout the Santa Clarita Valley. This is accomplished with a dynamic group of volunteers who source donations, package nutritious food to stretch a family’s food supply and distribute that food to qualifying residents in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The Adopt-a-Family program kicks off each year after Thanksgiving. In 2005, the SCV Food Pantry partnered with the Los Angeles County Sheriffs and other local non-profits in the Holiday Toy Drive to distribute grocery store gift cards to families in need.

The Santa Clarita Food Pantry is located at 24133 Railroad Avenue in Newhall. You can reach them at (661) 255-9078 or visit them on the web at www.scvfoodpantry.org
