On November 22, 2010, we welcomed the Santa Clarita Sheriffs Department to the KHTS Non Profit Spotlight to talk about the 2010 Sheriff’s Community Toy Drive.

The KHTS Non-Profit Spotlight – hosted by Janice Murray is heard every Monday at 10 am on AM-1220 KHTS and is sponsored by Castaic Lake Water Agency.

The Community Wide Toy Drive is a made possible with the help of the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Department, the generous support of sponsors and the hard work by Deputy Laurie Baylis and volunteers – who work many hours to put the toy store together so that families who are struggling can buy holiday gifts for their children in a shop-like setting and have them wrapped for the holidays.

Donations will be accepted through December 19th at the SCV Sheriff’s Station, Power Honda, KHTS or anywhere you see a Sheriff’s Toy Drive donation box.

KHTS also had the Theater Project of SCV on the Non-Spotlight Show.

The Theatre project has become a major player in Santa Clarita’s growing arts community by bringing Broadway calibre productions and top-notch educational and professional training programs offering classes, workshops and internships to our valley.

In the summer, the Theatre Project presented their second series of Master Classes and workshops from top teachers and artists in the theatre.

This amazing summer theatre training program brought Internationally & Nationally recognized Master Teachers in all aspects of theatre; Acting, Musical Theatre, Voice, Movement and more to local students and community members. The cost of bringing these teachers to Santa Clarita was fully underwritten by the SCV Theatre Project and their educational sponsors.

In the fall, the Theatre Project will bring classes east with a series of workshops supported by ACT and several Virginia arts organizations.

Back in June, Melissa and Jerry Wharton, founders of the Appalachian Children’s Theatre in Virginia brought four of their top students to observe the classes and attend private sessions with teachers from the Theatre Project.

This program, in it’s fourth year, is generously sponsored by Lou and Rita Garasi, McDonalds of Santa Clarita, and Melissa and Jerry Wharton, founders of the Appalachian Children’s Theatre in Virginia.

KHTS wants to thank Mark Salyer for spending time with us at the Coummunity Resource Station.
