The Parent Teacher Associations and staff at each school have to come together to offer these unique programs beyond traditional classroom curriculum.
Oak Hills Elementary School
On Friday at 8 a.m., Oak Hills Elementary School will host their sixth annual Jog-A-Thon, renamed this year as a Jog-N-Roll. Students will congregate on the field to run laps, in addition to enjoying music, refreshments and possibly a surprise guest.
It is only fundraiser for the Oak Hills PTA, and all proceeds will go towards funding programs for Oak Hill students throughout the rest of the year.
McGrath Elementary School
Tuesday, Nov. 5 will offer a unique learning experience for McGrath Elementary School fourth graders.
The William S. Hart Museum will bring their Moveable Museum Outreach Program into the classrooms, with interactive and hands-on activities to teach students about local history.
The presentation will include a multimedia presentation by museum staff and artifact replicas for the students to handle.
Peachland Elementary School
The yearly art contest Reflections, held by PTAs across the NSD, welcomes student creations in video production, dance, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.
On Thursday, Nov. 7, students and parents can attend the PTA-sponsored Reflections Gala from 5:30 to 7 p.m., where young artists will receive participant recognition and the chance to win in a number of categories. This year’s theme is “Believe, Dream, Inspire.”
Meadows Elementary School
Meadows Elementary School will hold their own Reflections Gala award ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m.
Students and families are also invited to Camp Read Aloud on Friday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. Parents, staff and community members will volunteer to read stories to children, sometimes dressing in character to act out the story as they read.
All grades are welcome.
