October Update On I-5 Roadwork

The following is a released update from the City of Santa Clarita regarding the progress of the ongoing roadwork at the I-5/Magic Mountain area.

The construction of the box culvert is complete. The box culvert is approximately 2,800 linear feet in length by 10 feet in width and is 8 feet deep. This is one of the major accomplishments within the Phase 2 improvements. The box had to be complete prior to beginning realignment work on The Old Road, which will start mid-November.

The Gas Company is continuing work on the north side of Magic Mountain Parkway east of Interstate 5 relocating their lines. ExxonMobil has completed Phase 1 of their two-phase pipeline relocation. This work is necessary due to the adjustment of the roadway profile. Anticipated completion of the relocation work is November 2007. The Gas Company is performing their work during nighttime hours. At least one lane of traffic in each direction will be open. Intermittent ramp closures are anticipated during nighttime hours.

Closure to the northbound I-5 off-ramp will begin late November to allow for utility improvements along Magic Mountain Parkway. The closure may last up to five weeks. The exact date of the ramp closure will be posted for commuters as soon as available. The traffic will be detoured onto Wayne Mills then Tourney Road and back to Magic Mountain Parkway. A temporary traffic signal is being installed at Wayne Mills and Tourney Road.

One of the Phase 2 improvements requires a pile driving operation for the construction of new retaining walls along the northbound I-5 off-ramp at Magic Mountain Parkway and eastbound towards Tourney Road. These operations will generate noise due to the heavy equipment required to complete the work and will take approximately three months.

Please check the City of Santa Clarita's website at www.santa-clarita.com or the project hotline (661) 290-2297, for any extended major lane closures, detours, or news associated with this project.
