Christian Cabanillas was arrested at Woodley Ave off Highway 118 at 12:32 p.m.
At a 11:45 a.m. a California Highway Patrol Officer was positioned on southbound Highway 14 south of Escondido Canyon Road monitoring traffic.
The officer observed a 1998 Toyota Avalon traveling at a high speed and initiated an enforcement stop. The Avalon momentarily yielded southbound on Highway 14 at Vasquez Canyon.
As the officer began his approach on the vehicle, CHP Dispatch revealed the Avalon was stolen out of the Palmdale area on July 23 out of a carjacking.
Cabanillas immediately sped away from the shoulder and reached speeds in excess of 100 mph in and out of traffic.
The suspect continued driving erratically and without due regard for the safety of the motoring public on Highway 14, to southbound I-5, and the southbound I-405 before transitioning to westbound Highway 118 with CHP in pursuit.
Cabanillas exited and re-entered the 118 freeway several times until attempting to exit eastbound turning southbound onto Woodley Ave.
CHP personnel utilized the PIT maneuver in the intersection and terminated the pursuit. Cabanillas was taken into custody without further incident. He was booked at 2 p.m.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Palmdale and Lancaster detectives as well as CHP Investigators from the Newhall area are cooperating in an ongoing investigation.
