Retiring principals pave the way for two District promotions.[view:node_ad=5]The Newhall School District has announced that both Old Orchard and Peachland Elementary schools will welcome new Principals. The decision was approved by the District’s Governing Board on Tuesday.
After 22 years in the District, and 13 as Principal of Old Orchard, Ruth Gauthier is retiring. She will be replaced by Sandra Reveles, who is currently serving as the assistant principal of McGrath Elementary.
Peachland Principal Judy Upham is also capping off her 22 year career with the District. The Board selected Newhall Elementary School assistant principal Sarah Johnson to take her place.
Both of the exiting principals lead their respective schools to State Distinguished School status.
As for the incoming school leaders, Johnson and Reveles have both worked for Los Angeles Unified School District, and reportedly have extensive backgrounds in working with English language learner populations, which the District feels will be a valuable asset for their new positions.
“The importance there, is that both of these schools have significant populations of English language learners and low socio-economic kids,” said District Superintendent Dr. Marc Winger. “This was a great match for us.”
Applicants from both outside and inside the District were in the running for the new position.
“The recruitment and selection process for two positions was intense,” said Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, Beverly Knutson. “We had many qualified candidates from outside and inside the district but, in the end, we are happy that we were able to select two finalists from our own ranks.”
The new principals will take their post beginning July 1st.
