One person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and another person was cited for driving without a license at a checkpoint Friday night in Valencia.
Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station operated the DUI-driver’s license checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on eastbound McBean Parkway at Bridgeport Lane and screened a total of 1,323 vehicles.
Ten additional citations were issued for various vehicle code violations.
According to SCV Traffic Sgt. Richard Cohen, “The goal of the checkpoint is to educate the community on the hazards of drunk driving while enforcing the DUI laws of the State of California. The checkpoint is an ongoing attempt to safely remove drunk drivers from our roadways.”
His statement said the selection of the location for the checkpoint was based on “DUI-related activity in that area.”
Local DUI checkpoints are funded by the state.
