Car went off I-5 and landed in dirt embankment below. 

Yesterday at 8:20 p.m., a car overturned on the I-5 freeway near Quail Lake road and killed two of its five passengers.  The driver, Carlos Alvarez Uribe was traveling southbound and was not speeding.  He was in the #3 lane, but suddenly swerved into the slow lane and went over the right shoulder.  For unknown reasons, he then lost control of the Chevrolet Silverado he was driving and went down a dirt embankment.

On the way down, 37 year old Selvia Sandoval was ejected from the car and suffered fatal injuries.  10 year old Elena Alvarez experienced major head trauma, and died as a result.  

The I-5 was closed and used as a landing site for emergency helicopters.  Two other passengers, Mayra Alvarez and Jolanda Rodela were airlifted from the scene to the LA County Medical Center and are in critical condition.    

Uribe and passenger Manuel Sandoval both suffered minor injuries and were transported to Henry Mayo Hospital.
