As part of an ongoing effort to enhance the quality of life in Santa Clarita, and to maintain a wealth of Open Space and Parkland for the community to benefit from, property owners within the City of Santa Clarita will be asked to vote on the creation of a proposed Open Space and Parkland Preservation District. This potential Preservation District would enable the City to purchase various land parcels to slow escalating urban development within and surrounding the City, protect wildlife habitats, as well as provide funding to maintain and construct more parks in the City. To inform the community on the attributes of the Open Space and Parkland Preservation District, the City will be hosting community meetings at various locations, and encourage property owners to attend. “It is important that we educate property owners on the attributes of the Open Space and Parkland and Preservation District. We want property owners to feel comfortable and well-educated when casting their votes,” stated Darren Hernández, Director of Administrative Services.
Meeting dates are scheduled as follows:

Ballots to vote on the proposed Open Space and Parkland Preservation District will be mailed to property owners in the month of October. The Preservation District requires a fifty-percent (50%) vote in favor of or in opposition to, in order to pass.
In addition to the pre-scheduled community meetings, the City has also put into place a speakers bureau to come out and educate local organizations about the Open Space and Parkland Preservation District. The City will send a representative out to any local group or organization who would like to host an information session on the Preservation District. Interested groups should contact the City to schedule a convenient time and meeting place.
