OVOV Back One Last Time For The Holidays

Leon Worden, SCV News

Just when you thought you’d heard the last of OVOV, it’s back.

OVOV, you’ll recall, is the One Valley One Vision general plan for the Santa Clarita Valley that the city of Santa Clarita and county of Los Angeles have been collaborating to craft for more than a decade.

It spells out how the valley will develop in the future. It’s a tool that the planning bodies both inside and outside city limits will be using to make sure future development projects comply with the standards it sets out for roads, schools, parks, housing, job sites and most of the other things that make up a vibrant, well functioning community.

Or in the vernacular of OVOV: “Life in the Santa Clarita Valley will continue to be exciting, enjoyable, and rewarding through a broad range of housing types, an increase in quality jobs in close proximity to all neighborhoods, and transit-oriented villages complemented by excellent schools, attractive parks and other recreational amenities, expanded trail networks, and preserved natural resource areas.”

Etcetera.

The Santa Clarita City Council approved OVOV in June 2011.

The last action at the county level came in February when the Board of Supervisors certified OVOV’s environmental impact report, with final adoption expected a couple of months later.

A couple of months turned into nine, as the the county’s planning staff made the last-minute adjustments that the supervisors ordered in February, and as the county’s legal team prepared the final documents.

On Tuesday, the supervisors intend to adopt OVOV once and for all, as a consent item on their agenda. The public hearings are long over.
