Many victims didn't even know they'd been hit; items recovered by deputies.
An alert deputy arrested two suspects in connection with several vehicle burglaries that occurred in the parking lot of the William S. Hart Baseball fields Thursday.
Mayra Arias, 26, of Saugus and Anthony Perez, 23, of Newhall face felony charges of burglary and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
The crime spree was short-lived when the deputy spotted the suspects driving in a stolen vehicle right in front of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's station at Valencia Boulevard and Magic Mountain Parkway.
The deputy conducted a felony traffic stop at Valencia Boulevard and Citrus Street and took the two into custody without incident. Inside the car deputies reportedly found purses, wallets, identification and other items belonging to other people. Deputies were able to contact many of the victims, who weren't even yet aware their cars had been burglarized while they were at the baseball fields.
Deputies were able to return much of the stolen property to its rightful owners. Both suspects were booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station and are each being held on $20,000 bail.
Detectives are investigating the possibility these suspects may also be responsible for at least two other vehicle burglaries that occurred in the same location on Tuesday, February 5, 2008.
