Palmdale Airport Becomes More Accessible

Free shuttle bus makes inaugural run from Santa Clarita.
ImageThis morning, Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich, Santa Clarita Mayor Bob Kellar, and a crowd of SCV and Antelope Valley residents gathered in Canyon Country to celebrate the first run of the Palmdale Flyer.

The new commuter bus will be making two stops on its route to the Palmdale Airport each day; one at the San Fernando Valley Flyaway station, and the other at the Via Princessa Metrolink Station in Santa Clarita.

The Palmdale Airport currently flies two daily United Airlines flights to San Francisco International, which in turn links to a host of other cities.

Some incentives are being offered up to potential passengers; with the Palmdale Flyer shuttle service free to all ticket holders as part of a trial through the end of the year. And there are other incentives too. The Palmdale Airport currently boasts the lowest wait times of any airport in Southern California, free parking, and no passenger facility charges.

“This is a quick, free and convenient alternative for our Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valley residents who will be able to avoid that congestion at LAX,” Supervisor Antonovich told KHTS.

With the Palmdale Airport still young in its development, many officials are hoping early success could mean more flights and more destinations. Supervisor Antonovich called the day “historic,” and Mayor Bob Kellar said that he would consider anything to help make transportation more accessible “Nothing is off the table,” Kellar said.

Busses pick up passengers at the Via Princessa Metrolink Station 95 minutes before a scheduled flight out of PalmdaleAirport, and they leave the airport 20 minutes after a flight has landed.
